Rourkela: Using his father’s service revolver, the son of a police officer looted Rs 15 Lakh from the bank in the area of the main road in Sundargarh on Tuesday.
However, because of the rapid action by the police Sundargarh, the defendant was arrested after a shootout and cash recovered.
Allegations have been treated at the District Head Office Hospital with bullet injuries.
The source said at around 2:20 a.m., Jaydeb Nayak, posed as a customer, entered the main road branch of Saudargarh Bank Axis Bank.
He pointed to the revolver at the cashier and asked him to hand over all the money from the cash counter.
When the cashier screamed help, managers and other bank staff rushed to the cash counters.

Nayak, son of a Sundargarh police station assistant assistant, then directed a gun at the manager and asked him to direct the cashier to hand over money to him.
In placing cash in the bag, the defendant tried to escape with his accomplice, which was outside the bank on the scooter.
The police reached on time and chasing the culprit about 1.5 km.
The defendant opened fire in the police during the pursuit and they reply.
Finally, the duo was arrested in the city of Shankara.
“We have recovered cash and revolver from the culprit,” said Sagarika Nath, SP Sundargarh.
