Odisha: Three Maois Killed in Malkangiri

CORAPUT: At least three Maoists, including two women, were killed in a meeting with security personnel in the Malkangiri District, early on Tuesday.
The police said it was based on the intelligence input on the presence of a group of Maoists near the Hill Tulsi area, bordering Chhattisgarh, an operation was launched by a joint team from the Voluntary Force District (DVF) and Special Operations Group (SOG).
“We have specific information about the movement of a group of armed Maoists in the Tulsi Hill area.
Seeing our people, Maois shooting, where our people reply with a controlled shooting,” said DGP Abhay.
“Can’t deal with heavy shots from our side, Maois escaped.
Then, during search operations, we recovered three bodies.
Their identification is not ascertained,” he added.
Security personnel have recovered two instases and one SLR and several rounds of ammunition directly from the site.
There were no casualties between security personnel.
“We suspect Maois belongs to the Andhra-Odisha special zalal committee.
The operation of the search and combing is still on.
As soon as our son returns, further details will be known,” said a senior police officer involved in an anti-Maoist operation at Malkangiri.
Meanwhile, DGP is expected to reach Malkangiri on Wednesday to take stock situations and to assess the ongoing anti-Maoist operations in the region.
