Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to continue the physical class for Standard 9 students in special schools throughout the state after a decline in Covid-19 cases.
The government has allowed the commencement of class teaching in schools throughout the state for grade 9 students.
The Social Security Department and Disability Persons (SSEPD) have asked collectors of 10 districts to reopen 9th grade in schools and hostels specifically for students.
SSEPD Director Braatati Harichandan in a letter to the Balalasore District collector, Cuttack, Ganjam, Ladydom, Coraput, Kandhamal, Puri, Kandhamal, Sundargarh and Khurda suggested to reopen schools for class 9 students who are physically challenged and reopen the hostel.

“The steps might be taken to reopen class 9 special schools and hostels that function under subject to some conditions,” HariChandan said in the letter.
With the physical infrastructure available in special schools, the authorities were told to maintain the Covid protocol and the local Covid situation could be taken into account while reopening the school and hostel, the letter said.
The collectors have been asked to strictly follow instructions issued by the School Department and Massa Education (S & M) to reopen schools and hostels.
Officers Jamsost Social District (DSSOS) can be instructed to regularly monitor school functions and hostels and submit monthly reports about the presence of students and additional settings carried out if there is a student housing accommodation that maintains social distance norms, an official said.
A preferred officer in the additional rank of district judges or sub-collectors can be felt to personally visit institutions in each district and ensure that the necessary safety procedures are carried out, the director is then mentioned in the letter.
DSSO has been asked to personally visit the institution before reopening special schools and submitting reports on safety measures.
Previously, the school department and mass education had been directed to reopen the teaching of classes for grade 9 students from August 16 with strict compliance with the Covid-19 protocol.
Teaching hours for grade 9 students in all government schools now are from 9am to 12:30 a night all days not including Sundays and national holidays.
Students are allowed to attend classes in online mode or offline mode in consultation with their parents.
Attendance is not mandatory for students in offline mode.
Meanwhile, the government has accelerated school teacher vaccinations and staff before reopening all classes.
