Bhubaneswar: Manoj Kumar Pattnik, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Odisha Computer Application Center (OCAC) and additional secretaries from the Electronics Department and Information Technology (E & IT), have fallen prey to fraud and imitation of cyber.
Cyber criminals that are not known allegedly hacked whatsapp pattnik numbers, sorted him and demanded money from the victim’s contact list by sending depressed messages.
Assuming messages as original, some close contact Pattnik transferred money to the bank and the upi account shared by a cheater.
The source said five people together sent around RS seven lakh to a Cyber criminal account.
“I will file an official complaint with the police on Wednesday.
Some of my contacts, who were victims of phishing messages, had submitted a complaint with the police Saheed Nagar here,” said Pattnik Toi.
Pattnik said he received a call that was unknown Whatsapp on Tuesday afternoon.
The caller did not say a word, pushed Pattnik to hang up after about 30 seconds.
“Around 3.20 a night, I received a call from my friend, who asked about my health and told me about the distress of the message, seeking an urgent financial assistance for my treatment, sent from whatsapp me to his phone.
I realized someone hacked my Whatsapp me,” Pattnik said.
Pattnik denied he clicked on the evil link sent by the defendant.
Immediately, Pattnik is flooded with phone calls from close and affection.
Some of his office staff reportedly sent money to fraudsters.
“I received the call and whatsapp message showed Pattnaik’s face, sir,” said a victim.
Pattnik said he still could not reinstall whatsapp with the same number as the hacker may have been damaged by his profile authentication system.
After the incident, the E & IT department has begun to squeal people against cyber fraud, which involves calling and message WhatsApp phishing.
“The department has issued an advisor about Phishing WhatsApp.
Hackers targets victims through WhatsApp voice calls or suspicious links on social media, SMS, whatsapp.
By adopting the right precautions, hackers can be stored in the bay without removing the application installation,” Department E & It tweeted.
