Bhubaneswar: A 22-year-old married woman who left her house to attend nature calls in Nimapara in the Puri district, allegedly raped by four people on Saturday night.
Police Nimapara arrested four accused on Sunday.
The police identified the main allegations as Balaram Bhoi alias Bali and his accomplice Ajit Das, Kanhei Bhoyi and Bidyadhar Swain.
The police said all the defendants belonged to the neighboring village of a friendly rape under the boundaries of the Kakpur police in Puri District.
In his complaint, the survivors of rape accused him of going to his villages near Andhiasahi around 10pm to relieve himself.
“Take advantage of his loneliness, Balaram clogged his mouth while his three colleagues defeated him.
Balaram and his three friends raped him,” he was quoted as saying by a police officer.
When he didn’t return home around 11pm, her husband and other family members began a search operation near the riverbed.
They found him crying on the basis of the river and then took him to the police station to file a complaint.
“We took a serious note about violations and immediately arrested four accused.
Charge-Sheet will be submitted against the defendant in court within 30 days.
Strict actions will be taken according to the law,” said Puri SP, Kanwar Vishal Singh.
It must be noted that the alleged rape of the gang occurred against the background of massive political anger for suspicion of deteriorating laws and order situations, most problems involving women’s safety in the state.
The BJP and Congress opposition has targeted BJD in power over the recent murder of Mamita Meer’s school teacher and alleged involvement of the Minister of State for the house, Shankar Mishra in a murder case.
