CHANDIGARH: Lt Gen Ajay Kumar Suri, a native of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh (HP) has taken over the coveted appointment of director general and Colonel Commandant of Army Aviation in New Delhi.
He hails from Sanjauli, Shimla and was educated in St.
Edward’s and Kendriya Vidyalaya Jakhoo Shimla.
His father had served in the Himachal Pradesh police.
An alumnus of National Defence Academy (NDA) Khadakwasla, Lt Gen Suri was commissioned as second lieutenant on June 8, 1985 from Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun into artillery regiment.
He had earned his flying badge in February 1999 and has been flying Cheetahs, Chetaks, and Advanced Light Helicopters for more than 6000 hrs.
He has also served in Sierra Leone, West Africa in UN Peace keeping Forces in 2000.
As Brigadier, he was Commandant of Combat Army Training School in Nasik.
Graduate of Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, he has also done Higher Command Course, Mhow and National Defence College (NDC) New Delhi.
He has also served in West Africa, Sierra Leone as UN Peace Keeping Forces (UNPKF).
His initiative has enabled two women Army Officers being inducted into Helicopter Pilot’s training for the first time in Nasik recently.
