Officers who took bribes from died relatives were punished

Bengaluru: An official who harassed the family of government employees who had died to delete files on compensation debt to the latter have been sentenced to four years in prison and fined Rs 20,000.
A local court in Tumakuru on Monday gave a sentence to K Ramesh 4 years, a second division employee at Kunigal City Council.
He was arrested by red hand in 2015 while accepting RS 5,000 bribes, and Lokayukta police filed a chargesheet under the prevention of corruption laws.
“Accused of Ramesh was sentenced to a strict prison for four years and had to pay a fine of RS 20,000.
In the case of the default payment, he will undergo a further simple imprisonment for two months,” read orders passed by S Sudindranath, additional Session VII and Special Court Judges .
Ramesh was stuck while accepting bribes from a grieving family from a waterman, Krishnappa from Kunigal, who had died in 2015.
The government has appointed the son of Krishnappa Nagaraj to his father’s compensation posts.
Nagaraj has approached Ramesh looking for his help in getting the benefits of his father’s death.
Ramesh demands a bribe of Rs 10,000 to clean the document.
Even though Krishnappa’s family asked Ramesh to reduce the number because of their financial status, the latter insisted.
Nagaraj paid Rs 3,000 as a down payment and family approached Lokayukta with complaints.

He was arrested on the same day and sent to Judicial guard.
Nagaraj has recorded his conversation with Ramesh, where he demands bribes and refuses to reduce the number when requested.
