Damascus: MASIF oil spill caused by leakage from power plants in one of the Syrian oil refineries that spread along the coast of the Mediterranean state, Syrian state news agency and satellite photos showed Wednesday.
There said the spill reached the city of Jableh Beach, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the refinery in Baniyas City, added that the Syrian and Municipal Department of the Municipality in the coastal province of Latakia had placed all relevant departments.
It is said that work is underway to clean the beach in the rocky area.
One day earlier, the Syrian government said that the maintenance team at Baniyas’s thermal station had brought fuel leakage from one of the controlled tanks.

An image from Monday does not show slippery signs, showing anything that happens because the spill occurs later.
The head of electrical workers syndicate in the Tartous trade union, Dawoud Darwish, blamed the crack in one of the fuel tanks at the thermal station.
He showed that the tank was filled with 15,000 tons of fuel.
Syrian oil resources are mostly outside the government-controlled area but the two refineries are under government control and operations.
This makes Damascus depend on Iran for fuel, but US treasury sanctions have hampered supply networks, which stretched Syria, Iran and Russia.
There has been a series of mysterious attacks on ships in Central waters, including the coast of Syria, for more than a year.
They have come amid increasing tensions in the area between Iran, Israel and the United States.
In May, Syrian Foreign Minister blamed Israel for a mysterious attack targeting oil tankers to Syria, said they violated international law and would not be punished.
