Tokyo: Indian shooter leaves for a bad start at the Tokyo Olympics as the first timer Elavanil Valarivan and APURVI Chandela failed to qualify for the final of the 10m Air Rifle Rifle event here on Saturday.
Making his Olympic debut, Elavanil finished 16 after shooting 626.5 more than six series of 10 shots, while apurvi who was more experienced settled for 36th place after aggregate 621.9 in the Asaka range.
Indians started a decent start and even when APURVI slipped after that, the 21-year-old Elavenil was trying to stay in the contest with good performance in the third series, including the perfect 10.9 shoot.
However, elavenil cannot maintain the same shape and some 9 in the fifth and sixth series pushed it further down.
APURVI was finished 34 in Rio Games 2016 Norway’s Jeanette Heighad topped the qualification with the Olympic qualifying score of 632.9, while South Korea’s Heemoon Park was second with 631.7.
