Olympic-bound rowers cancel Overseas exposure tour Because of quarantine rules

NEW DELHI: Olympic-bound rowers Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh have opted to cancel their five-week vulnerability visit to Portugal because of a compulsory two-week hard quarantine time they needed to function upon hitting the European nation.
The Mission Olympic Mobile (MOC) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) had sanctioned Rs 21 lakh because of their coaching in Portugal’s Pocinho High Performance Centre before Tokyo Olympic Games.
No matter how the rowers determined against traveling because they didn’t wish to shed critical practice time due to the rule.
“We must undergo a compulsory two-week tough quarantine on arrival in Portugal, therefore we needed to cancel the vulnerability tour.
The Olympics is much less than two weeks off and we can not afford to shed practice,” that the 25-year-old Jat told PTI.
“We’re frustrated, however we can not do anything because it’s a result of the outbreak,” he explained in his training base in Army Sports Institute at Pune.
Jat and Singh had qualified for the Olympics in men’s lightweight double sculls event after finishing second at the last race of this Asia/Oceania Continental Qualifying Regatta at Tokyo earlier this season.
Jat stated they will finally have to compete at the Tokyo Olympics with no global exposure.
“A number of the best rowers of this world have come to train in the centre in Portugal and we’d have surely profited.
Now, however, we must train here in the Army Rowing Node.
