New Delhi: The Indian Wrestling Federation has domined the medal wrestler bonded by the Olympics and the World Championship Ravi Dahiya and Deepak Punia for the Arjuna award along with Anshu Malik who rose.
Deepak has won a silver medal in the 2019 World Championship at Nur Sultan while Ravi pocketed bronze along with tickets to Tokyo.
Dahiya has emerged as a strong medal competitor in the 57kg category at the Olympics, where he was seeded fourth.
He recently defended his Asian degree in Almaty before winning the silver medal in Poland open.
The Indian Wrestling Federation (WFI) also nominated Malik in his age of 19 years, which has won five medals in six tournaments including an Asian degree since starting his duties at the senior circuit last year.
Sarita Mor, who missed the Olympic qualification but won an Asian title at 59kg in Almaty, has also been nominated for Arjuna.
“The four wrestlers have done well and deserve to receive recognition, so we have sent their applications,” Assistant Secretary WFI Vinod Tomar told PTI.
“We have also nomined Vikram coaches, Kuldeep Malik and Sujeet Maan for the DRONACACHARYA award.
It can be noted that National Women’s coach Kuldeep Malik has become the recipient of the Dhyanchand award, so the application may not be considered for Dronacharya.
Sujeet has won four Asian medals in his wrestling career before he Join the train as a coach.
He was also associated with the Indian men’s Freestyle team as the national coach between 2011 to 2019.
In the Lifetime Achievement category (Dronacharya), WFI has nomined the Jagroop Rathi, RK Hoba and Kundu Hospital.
Hoba is Secretary of the Wrestling Association Haryana .
For the Dhyanchand award, WFI has sent the name Sajjan Singh, Jai Prakash and Dushyant Sharma.
The 89-year-old Sajjan Singh competed at the 1960 Rome Olympics.
