Paris: Omicron Covid-19 variants may be 105 percent more contagious from Delta, according to research by French scientists.
This study, published on the Medrxiv website and has not been reviewed, analyzes 131,478 tests in France from October 25 to December 18, 2021.
The team applies statistical models for specific screening tests of variants and full genome sequencing.
They compared the number of infections with Omicron variants, Alpha and Delta for a period of 21 days.
The difference in the level of transmission in people with delta and omicron is around 105 percent.
“We estimate that the transmission advantage of the Omicron variant of the Delta variant is more than 105 percent,” said Samuel Alizon, from the Interdisciplinary Research Center in Biology (CIRB) of France.
Furthermore, the results showed that tests were consistent with the existence of omicron variants showed a higher cycle threshold value, which could show the number of lower virus genetic materials.
“Epidemiological modeling shows that even if the omicron variant virulence is reduced compared to the Delta variant, the increase in the reproduction we estimate from data can have the potential to maintain Covid-19 activity which is critical at a high level in the high level of hospital, if it does not burden them,” The word Alizon added that “fast mitigation of epidemic waves” is very important.
The results also show that in young people, the prevalence of infection with omicron variants or alpha variants is higher than the Delta variant.
Omicron was designated as a “concern” variant by the World Health Organization (WHO) in November.
Since then it has been detected in more than 100 countries.
Studies have suggested that compared to previous variants, Omicron tends to make people seriously ill.
Evidence also shows that Omicron is able to attack the upper respiratory tract easier than the Delta variant, but it is less effective for infecting the lungs – the reason why it is more infectious and the death is lower than Delta.
However, earlier this week, which warned not to describe the omicron variant as “light” in the middle of the “tsunami case” extraordinary health system throughout the world.
“Just like the previous variant; Omicron is the people who are hospitalized and kill people,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreesus, Director General of WHO, said last week.
“The hospital becomes crowded and lack of staff, which results in death that can be prevented from not only Covid-19 but other diseases and injuries where patients cannot receive timely care”.
