Patna: The country on Sunday recorded 5,022 fresh covid cases even as a genome sequencing at the Indira Gandhi Medical Institute (IGIM) in Patna confirmed the existence of the omicron variant of the virus on Sunday.
With this, the number of active cases in the state has increased to 16,897.
Patna itself recorded 2,018 new cases in the last 24 hours with the level of participation of more than 21%.
This virus also claims the life of one person on Sunday, taking victims of the country to 12,101.
The Ministry of Health Additional Secretary of Head Pratyaya Amrit said 27 cases of Omicron showed that such other parts of India, a new variant of the virus also spread wings in Bihar.

Manish Mandal said 32 samples, Omicron variants were found in 27 and Delta in three.
Dr.
Mandal said the sample was examined in the first lot of most of them who had a history of travel recently.
Fourteen patients Omicron variants from Covid came from Patna and Danapur and the rest of Madhubani, Vaishali, style, East Champaran, Buxar and Purnia District.
“The Omicron variant mainly attacks the throat, causing fever and headaches for several days.
The Delta virus infects the lungs, which leads to severe respiratory problems,” added Dr.
Mandal.
As far as regarding the case of fresh covid, nine other districts register more than 100 new cases on Sundays other than Patna.
Style remains in second place with 258 new cases, followed by Muzaffarpur (209), Samastipur (200), Jehanabad (133), Begusarai (125), Nalanda (123), suggestions (114) and Vaishali (114) and Vaishali (102 ).
