Mumbai: In the background of the Omicron Coronavirus variant, Mumbai police have imposed part 144 of the criminal procedure code (CRPC) on Saturdays and Sundays.
Orders prohibit rallies or morcha or procession etc., from people or vehicles.
Orders come into force with the effects of 1201AM on December 11 and will remain at midnight on December 12.
“Everyone who violates this command must be punished under section 188 IPC and other legal provisions as applicable,” said a statement issued by DCP S Chaitanya, a police spokesman Mumbai.

This makes it important to continue emergency measures to prevent and contain the spread of the virus with a view to prevent the danger to human life, health or safety and prevent threats to legal and order situations, the statement said.
Orders also came in the background of the incident of violence reported in Amravati, Malegaon and Nanded during November 2021, “pose a threat to the applicable law and the situation of order in Maharashtra.”
