Omicron quickly replaced the previous strain: ICMR

Pune: Omicron quickly replaced the SARS-COV-2 strain (Coronavirus) which was circulated previously in most metropolitan cities and regions that had 70% of Delta cases at the end of December last year, maybe seeing changes now, officials from India’s official medical research council.
“We cannot say that some states have more Omicron presence than others because samples are sent from a limited area.
But most of us can say the presence of Omicron more than Delta in Maharashtra and Delhi,” said the Additional Director General of the Indian Medical Research Board ( ICMR) Dr.
Samiran Panda on Thursday.
He said, “The situation is dynamic.
So, the area that has 70% Delta at the end of December last year might see changes now, like trends throughout the world.” The ICMR Scientist said, “What is important to understand is that SARS-COV-2 infection Continuing.
Therefore, vaccination drive needs to be continued with speed, with increased masking, unnecessary travel avoidance and mass meeting.
We are unable to lower our guards at this point even if Omicron slowly replaces deltas in most pockets.
“State Surveillance Officer Dr.
Pradip Awate said earlier that more than 50% of the samples in the country were Omicron and replacing deltas slowly in most pockets.
“Slowly changing deltas even in the bag where the prevalence of 70% last month,” he said.
Dr.
Rajesh Karyakarte, the state is responsible for the sequencing of the genome, also said Omicron slowly replaced Delta in the bag that reported a surge in surge.
“Every surge caused by a new variant.
In this case, it is Omicron.
So, bags like Mumbai, Pune and Thane see Omicron replaces Delta,” he said.
