Omicron Threat: The Ministry of Health Assam expressed concern over the arrival of 500 int’l passengers

Guwahati: About 500 international travelers from ‘at high risk’ countries, where the threat of Omicron is a grave, scheduled to arrive at Assam in the past week, but many statuses are still unknown.
The source at the State Health Department told Ti on Tuesday that 500 tourists arrived at various international airports in the country and they were scheduled to connect flights to Assam from there.
“According to the air suvidha portal, from December 1, around 500 passengers who are bound by Assam have landed in India.
But many do transit to Assam and have not reached Guwahati.
However, the correct data is not available on how many of those who have entered.
, “said a senior health department official.
In a big break, 30 international passengers, who arrived at Guwahati airport on Monday, were tested negatively.
On Tuesday, 10 other passengers arrived at the airport and until when submitting this report, no positive was tested.
However, there is no data available with the State Health Department for other airports such as Dibrugarh and Silchar which is also connected to the leading metro city.
Health officials said that in Kamrup (Metropolitan) (Metropolitan) (Guwahati was in this district), around 169 international passengers will arrive since December 1.
Many are registered to enter the Barak Valley in South Assam.
During the second wave, the Ministry of Health felt very difficult to examine the spread of the virus in the valley of Barak.
Many visitors are also scheduled to enter the district in the Bodoland territorial area.
The Indian Airport Authority (AAI) also cannot provide international passenger-specific data and it is feared that some might have missed testing, added airport officials.
A large number of passengers came to Assam from England.
Many passengers are also scheduled to arrive from countries such as South Africa, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.
“According to central guidance, the threat of omicron is being monitored.
The severity of this variant has not been ascertained but spread very quickly.
This is the biggest concern,” added airport officials.
The Government of Assam on Sunday night published SOP after the threat of Omicron, made it mandatory for all international passengers who arrived in countries from ‘in high-risk countries’ to go to the quarantine house for seven days even after testing Covid negative at the airport.
Those who test positively will be hospitalized according to the protocol and their samples will be sent to sequencing genomes to determine the variant.
However, the release of the Ministry of Health said that children under five have been released from the test, but they will be tested if they show symptoms.
