Nagpur: Less than a month after the first Omicron case was confirmed in Nagpur, a new variant that was very transmitting had become a dominant strain among the positive cases of SARS-COV-2, revealing a study.
53 sequential samples between 1 and 6 January, Omicron variants were found in 51, or 96% of cases.
The development was confirmed in the first run of the new genome sequencing facility installed in CSIR-neeri environmental virological cells.
Cells have also run the Covid-19 RT-PCR lab which ICMR recognized since the first wave in 2020.
CSIR-neeri cells have been able to set up the first genome sequencing facility of Vidarbha, many before one of the three medical colleges – IGGMCH.
, GMCH and AIIMS Nagpur.
Krishna Khairnar, cell head, told toi that the latest sample was taken for this research.
“We did the whole genome sequencing on 53 samples received from January 1 to January 6.
This study showed 51 of them positive for Omicron variants (B.1.1529) while two samples were other variants (20A),” he said.
Only one in 51 confirmed omicron patients had a history of foreign trips.
Others are believed to have come into contact with Omicron operators.
Thus, a recent surge in the district, which has registered less than 20 cases until December-end, can be associated with Omicron.
Khairnar added that although proportionally 96% of the samples were omicron variants, more sequencing needed.
“The question of whether Omicron has replaced Delta will be further ratified through a greater sample size Neer cell, working with CCMB Hyderabad, has sorted 900 samples collected between October 2020 and December 2021 for Nagpur Regency.
According to his research on Lot the previous sample, the Delta variant has been dominant until the beginning of December.
Cells accept the Saline samples of RT-PCR gardires from the RPT sample collection center and other cellular collection centers, where citizens of various parts of urban and rural areas come.
Cells have also sorted all positive samples from Nagpur Regency from August and so on.
The sequencing results of all these samples have shown the existence of deltas and sub-lineaks.
The first Omicron patient in the city has arrived from West Africa through Delhi on December 3.
The results of his sequence have shown a variant like Omicron on December 12.
The second omicron patient sample was confirmed by the neeri-cccb study.
Strangely, the NMC stop sending omicron samples suspected of being neeri.
The cell then continued the study of samples that came to the RT-PCR test.
