Nagpur: In what was considered a stain in the Urban Urban Union of the Ministry of RS1 Crore Cycle4India Challenge Award for Nagpur City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) to encourage cycling, a dedicated bicycle lane 18 km in this city used for four-wheel parking, two-wheeled or interrupted by Snack traders.
Cyclist is not happy with Laurel and calls a special bicycle track besides eye waschers.
NSSCDCL has spent RS1 Crore received through the company’s social responsibility funds to limit tracks.
In accordance with the mandate of the smart city, the trajectory must be kept free for cyclists all the time.
But this is not a problem, as found by TI in the examination of reality was done a day after the city received recognition among 11 cities for their work.
After covering the entire 18 km patch, TOI found that it was almost clear in the civil line area.
However, at Amravati Road from Law College Square to Maharajbagh Square, it was occupied by four-wheeled or interrupted by snack traders.
The Head of the NSSCDCL (Smart) Department of Environment Pranita Umredkar stated that Smart City created songs as a pilot project on the road with a joint traffic movement.
“It’s not permanent,” he said and added that the project was taken to bring behavioral changes.
NSCDCL will also approach traffic police to take action on vehicles parked illegally on the track.
Umredkar also appealed to citizens not to park their vehicles on track.
Aniruddha Raich’s cycling fans, who have taken various initiatives to promote cycling culture in the city, said that NSSCDCL did not deserve awards.
“NSSCDCL only creates artificial bicycle tracks on the road that is intended for vehicle movements,” he said.
Raich said that now cyclists and private vehicle owners, especially those who have come to civilians for morning walks since decades, struggling for spaces that are limited to the trajectory.
“The morning pedestrian argues that they need space to park their vehicles.
This means that the NSSCDCL only marks a portion of the road for tracks rather than ensuring that it is exclusively used by cyclists,” he said.
Rohit Deshpande, Buff Cycling, appreciates NSSCDCL to make special bicycle tracks.
“It is a good idea to promote green transportation in Nagpur who loses the green cover because of various jobs and infrastructure,” he said.
He, however, feels that the authorities must consider increasing the track width.
“The song is very narrow in several places,” he said.
Deshpande shows that dust accumulates on the corner of the road, especially on cycling lanes, makes biking difficult and unsafe.
He demanded that the NMC solid waste management department must swept the track every day.
Some Ti bicycle riders spoke to say that uneven surfaces and holes are also the reason for being a concern.
Traffic police must regularly take action against four-wheeled parking and vendors on the trajectory, they said.
