Thiruvananthapuram: While many students are trapped at home, attending online classes, government high school students at Avanavanchery are busy planting Padi Puppies (Njaru Nadal) on Saturday.
The team of students of the Kadet (SPC) of the school transplanted the puppies at 35 cents LEASE LAND in Kattayilkonnam Padashekaram near Idakodu.
It was six years ago that the SPC School unit had started rice planting on barren soil as part of the project, ‘Ente Maram’, the tree planting initiative trees aimed at making students realize the importance of agriculture.
With the support of local farmers and Krishi Bhavan, students are actively involved in all stages of agriculture from sowing seeds to reap harvest.
“Actually, this is a good sign that future generations will not leave agriculture.
Because our pandemics cannot ensure the participation of all students.
And they are quite unhappy,” said Sabu N, the SPC community police officer at school.
In addition to rice cultivation, they have also grown various varieties of vegetables such as snake pumpkin, bitter pumpkin and spinach.
Often the result is used to prepare dishes for midday eating schemes at school.
But now with the rest of the school closed, vegetables are sold to the nearest population.
“Usually on the day of reopening the school, students are given payasam with rice obtained from cultivation.
The remaining Paddy is bought by the teachers,” Sabu said.
This time and so on, they plan to introduce their own organic rice brands on the market.
And they have used Uma, high seed variations for cultivation.
According to PTA Pesident Adv Madhusoodhanan, the business is an eye opener for the people.
As soon as the school began cultivation, many locals also began farming in other nearby barrenlands.
“When my grandfather is a farmer and I also like farming.
By joining school agriculture activities, I have learned many aspects of rice cultivation such as sowing, transplantation, and harvesting.
Local farmers support us well during the process,” said Aswani, SPC school , Njaru Nadal held on Saturday was inaugurated by the President of Panciran Mudakkal K Chandrababu.
