New Delhi: On this day, 13 years ago, when Abhinaav Bindra became the first Indian to win an individual Olympic gold medal.
Bindra has achieved the achievement during the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 10 meters of Air Rifle Shooter visible on the craft.
The shooter had shot 10.8 in his last shot and this sealed a gold medal for Indians.
Before this shot, he was tied with Henri Hakkinen Finland and if he shot something less than 10.8, he would not win a gold medal.
After starting the Olympic journey in Sydney in 2000, the 37-year-old shooter qualified in the three Olympic finals including his golden journey in Beijing in 2008 (Athens became another) in PET 10M Air Rifle, while he missed Sydney and London.
Bindra, in 2017 officially announced his retirement from the shooting, said ‘it was time to continue and hand stick to the younger generation.’ The shooter has missed the second Olympic medal in Rio Olympics 2016.
In the Tokyo Olympics which was recently concluded, Neeraj Chopra became the second person of India to win gold individual Olympics for India.
Javelin Neeraj’s thrower on Saturday won a gold medal and this was the first medal won by an Indian athlete on track and the field in the match.
