Thiruvananthapuram: A 73-year-old woman tested the positive Zika virus in Kerala on Monday, took the number of infections in the country to 19.
Health Minister Veena George said the virus was detected to a coimbatore-based laboratory sent to a sample by a private hospital where the woman was Treated.
At the same time, five samples sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) unit in Alappuzha were tested negatively for viruses, he said in the release.
On Sundays, three people, including toddlers, were found to be infected with Zika, after the government set up 2,100 test kits for testing facilities in four medical colleges in the state.
Test facilities have been arranged in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Kozhikode Medical Colleges and in NIV, Alappuzha.
The minister on Sunday has said that hospitals have been instructed to test those patients, especially pregnant women, with fever, rash and body pain.
