PUDUCHERRY: About one third of the population in the Union Puducherry area has received at least one vaccine dose against Covid-19 on Thursday, the UT government said on Friday.
The health care authority has so far provided a single dose of the 4.4 lakh vaccine and two doses to 67,410 people.
They have given a total dose of 5.07 lakh.
The regional population, 12.5 lakh per census 2011, is projected to touch 14 lakh and 16 lakh in 2021.
The region reported 175 new cases even as 276 patients recovered on Friday, reducing active cases to 2,232.
From them, 1,906 patients were under isolation and home care.
Puducherry head office reported maximum new cases with 131 followed by Karaikan (27), Mahe (15) and Yanam (2).
While two patients died of infection in UT on Thursday, the number of deaths rose on Friday.
Eight patients died took the dead to 1,759 on Friday.
Infection mortality rates reach 1.5%.
UT has so far reported 1.17 lakh cases with a recovery rate of 96.6%.
