At least one person was killed and the other four injured Saturday when an alleged bomb destroyed the minibus near the Taliban examination post in Kabul, officials said.
The incident occurred in Dasht-e Barchi, the outskirts of Kabul is dominated by the most Shiite Hazara community members, which for years have become the target of violence by Islamic groups (IS).
Because the Taliban returned to power on August 15, dozens of bombs left in East Nangarhar Province – a nest of activity – but the capital of Kabul largely escaped such violence.
“I was in my car and the explosion occurred in the vehicle in front of us,” said a witness told AFP.
“It’s really burned.” He said the explosion occurred near the Taliban examination post, and that the shot could be heard briefly immediately after that.
The nearest hospital posted a notification that said it had acknowledged death and four injuries.
Taliban spokesman Zabihulla Mujahid tweeted that one person had been killed and two injuries.
The explosion appeared a day after at least three people were killed and 15 were injured by a bomb at a Nangarhar mosque.
The bomb – where there were no groups claimed responsibly – underlining the many challenges faced by the new Taliban regime in Afghanistan, with the commemoration of the United Nations this country was also on the verge of the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
In a statement, the Governor’s Office Nangarhar said officials had arrested two “perpetrators”, but did not provide other details.
“More investigations about this incident are ongoing and more actions will be taken,” he said.
While Kabul is mostly free from the activities of the Islamic State since the Taliban takeover, in one recent attack, fighters raided the city national military hospital, killing at least 19 people and injured more than 50.
