One year, pettimudy and unseed lessons

Idukki: “Sudden tassel from the storm and rain woke me up at midnight last week, bringing back memories of the August 6 night,” said Murukan, one of the many people who remained traumatized by the landslide that hit Petttimudy a year ago.
“For three days it rained endlessly and there was no power.
My wife was Murukeshwari and Son Ganesh with me.
At night, we heard a terrible voice and soon swept away in Mudslide.
We were swallowed up by waves of water, mud and debris and debris Think we will die, “said Murukan.
Sixty-six people died and four were still lost after mud, mud and large stones hit the slopes and leveled asbestos roofed houses occupied by plantation workers.
Murukan, who runs the canteen in Pettimudy and his family among the only 12 people who survived the landslide massively.
Pettimudi in Rajamalai, which was close to Eravikulam National Park, fell under the Munnar wildlife division.
The cluster of the quarter worker is a crowded settlement with a small canteen and grocery store too.
At present, the area wore a lonely look covered under a stack of stones and debris that fell from the hill.
Eight survivors of landslides have provided housing in Kuttiyar Valley but they remain with their relatives in Rajamala close to plantations where they work.
On the road to Eravikulam National Park, a few kilometers near the Longslide-Struck area, a cemetery has been prepared covered with stone graves marked by the names of the victims.
There are plans to build a larger warning.
There were 18 children among those who lost their lives in landslides.
Gopika, one of them, who managed to survive the tragedy when he studied in Thiruvananthapuram, lost his parents and 14 other relatives in landslides.
A plus-one student, he continued to score added value in all subjects.
Landslides occur around 10:30 but the outside world to find out that only after survivors reaching forest checkpoints in the Eravikulam National Park at 7am the next day and it took four hours for the rescue team to arrive at the place.
, “The bodies were washed for more than 14 km from the location of landslides.
One body recovered from the top of the tree, about 14 feet tall,” said Sebinster Francis, a member of the rescue team, added that the lack of communication facilities and the field risk of inhibiting rescue surgery in Petttimudy.
A report sent by former Tahsildar Special Munnar before the IDUKKI collector shows that the government must immediately provide special frequency wireless sets to the revenue department official.
It also stated that to carry out an emergency rescue operation in the Munnar region, the special rescue power below the income department needs to be regulated.
But a year after the disaster, recommendations remain unfulfilled.
Likewise, the authorities have announced they will mark landslide prone areas in this district to prepare a hazard map and take steps to evacuate people in the rainy season to avoid the tragedy in the future.
But experts say the proposal remains on paper.
“Some agents conducted a study after landslides hit the area.
But the government has not published any reports that showed the actual reason for the tragedy,” said a senior geologist.
