ONGC Attempts TN nod to drill 10 oil Mining wells

TRICHY: Days later chief Union M Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocating the Union authorities to not allow gas and oil mining at Cauvery delta districts, ONGC has battled the state ecological impact evaluation jurisdiction (SEIAA) trying to drill 10 exploration wells in Ariyalur district.
The ONGC correspondence circulated broadly on Wednesday attracted sharp criticisms from political parties and farmers that were up against petroleum exploration from the agrarian area which was designated a secure specific agriculture zone from the former administration.
According to the program dated June 15 filed to the state authorities, the petroleum major strategies to run 10 exploratory wells in Ariyalur area in which there’s the probability of hydrocarbon book.
ONGC sources said a ecological clearance program along with pre-feasibility record have been filed for Cauvery Basin.
If any gas or oil reserve can be discovered, strategies will soon be afoot to demonstrate development molds from the Cauvery advantage department of ONGC from Karaikal that manages exploration from the delta districts.
“Just with the mining wells can we differentiate natural gas and oil book.
Maybe the program was filed since the projected region falls outside the secure zone,” an official source at ONGC stated under the condition of anonymity.
The evolution comes on the heels of a comparable petroleum exploration proposal in Vadatheru at Pudukottai district triggering protests.
“Already Ariyalur district is confronting the terrible consequences of excess limestone quarrying and cement businesses.
Our groundwater amount is depleting and petroleum exploration is likely to create our careers worse,” Varanavasi K Rajendran, state secretary, and Consortium of Indian Farmers Association, told TOI.
This past year, the AIADMK government had announced Cauvery delta districts that a safe zone for agriculture encircling part of Ariyalur and prohibited oil mining activities.
Farmers reported the state government shouldn’t allow this exploration.
“We shall communicate the issue of farmers into the ministry.
We won’t permit any endeavor that hurts farmers,” K Chinnappa, Ariyalur MLA, stated.
Meanwhile, the PMK pioneer Anbumani Ramadoss and Tamil Maanila Congress chief G K Vasan have appealed to the state authorities to not permit the proposed mining.
