‘Only 0.04% of pregnant women fully vaxxed in Maha’

Pune: Only 901 pregnant women in Maharashtra who received a dose of Covid vaccine after expecting a mother began to get a shot in the country in July, revealed the latest report from the State Health Department.
Considering the country has around 20 lakh women in this category, almost not 0.04% have fully immunized against the Coronavirus novel.
Vaccine doubt, misunderstanding and a long gap 84 days between two covishield doses is a possible reason for a low number, experts state.
“A total of 32,281 pregnant women have received the first dose of Covid vaccines in Maharashtra until October 27.
He also underlines the possibility of these figures slightly higher than reported because many pregnant women do not like to express their pregnancy status and prefer to get a Covid shot under the age category.
“Many women may choose for the first or second shot under the age group category, and are not under the category of pregnant women.
This tends to be the main reason why the amount of overall vaccination is very low in pregnant women.
In addition, some of them take the first shot possible It has been sent at the time of their second dose due and this might cause a clear delay in taking a second shot, “Desai said.
Some wrong ideas also tend to be among the root causes of low vaccination among pregnant women.
Many of them might avoid vaccinations during the first trimester (the first three months of pregnancy).
“Bulk awareness activities and recurrent counseling are needed to eliminate worries of unwanted side effects, including miscarriage.
The Covid Vaccine is safe,” said Senior Gynecologist Sanjay Gupte, former president of the Federation of Midwifery Federation and Gynecology India (Fosgi).
“Existing comorbidity, the age of advanced mothers and high body mass index is a risk factor for Covid -19 severe in pregnancy.
These women have a greater risk of severe disease than Covid-19, hence they have to choose vaccination 12 weeks from Infection or eight weeks of full recovery, “said Gynecologist Pankaj Sarode, Vice President of the Content of Pune and Gynecological Community – a professional body of obstetricians and gynecologists practicing at Pune.
Toi reported earlier that vaccination drive has raised a poor response in the Aurangabad countryside too.
