Only 1/3 village in Pune Start Waste Management Factory

Pune: Problems related to the availability of land and internal disputes in Panchayats gram have influenced Pune Zilla Parishad’s (ZP) plan to have a solid waste management plant in each of the 1,100 grams of panthayats in the district.
ZP has planned to complete the project on October 2, 2021, as part of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission.
However, so far it can start working at only 355 of these plants.
Disposal of solid waste has been a problem in villages with more than 5,000 populations that encourage ZP to go for ambitious projects.
“In accordance with its policies, the gram of Panchayat and the Block Development of Tehsil Officers each need to get technical sanctions at the Tehsil level and complete the project.
Only projects that cost more than Rs 5 Crore will be passed by ZP.
Thus, the five projects that we have shukun , “Deputy Chief Executive of the Milind Tonpe (Department of Water and Sanitis) from ZP said.
About RS156 Crore already with this gram Panceshayats.
There is no scarcity of funds.
But still, the works are not finished in the deadline, Tonpe added.
“Some grams of Panchayats have completed the compost plant and plastic disposal units in their land.
Gram Panchayats who do not have their empty land under the management of district government to establish plants,” another senior official from ZP.
The official official from the department shows that internal disputes over the administration of factory contracts to private agencies has become a problem.
“Thus, many grams of Panchayats cannot complete their design and proposal proposals at their level.
Also, in several teasts, block construction officers do not work in coordination with villages.
As a result, projects have been trapped,” added officials.
More than RS 40,700 Crore has been allocated to help more than two Lakh villages achieve solid and liquid waste management (SLWM) under the mission of Swasch Bharat (Grameen), The Jal Shakti Ministry said last year.
While the center will spend around RS 14,000 Crore, the state will spend more than RS 8,300 crores and the remaining funds will come from other sources, he said.
