Washington: Improving the previous assessment that there were two bombers and two separate explosions outside Kabul Airport in Afghanistan on Thursday, the Pentagon said Friday that only one suicide bomber did a deadly attack.
“We don’t believe that there is a second explosion in or near the Baron Hotel.
It was a suicide bomber,” said General Hank Taylor.
The Pentagon added Friday that around 5,400 people were inside Kabul airport awaited the evacuation from Afghanistan, a day after the deadly attack on operations by Islamic groups, killed at least 92 people, including 13 members of US services.
General Taylor said that in 24 hours to 3.00 morning Washington Time, 12,500 more people were evacuated in 89 US flights and coalitions.
According to the US government, 105,000 people were evacuated from Afghanistan since mid-August.
The United States, who has set a deadline for August 31 to complete the evacuation, will be able to transport people “until the last time,” Taylor told reporters.
Meanwhile, United States forces helped evacuation in Afghanistan remain vigilant for more attacks.
