Mumbai: If you have seen the Worli fort are lit during the last weekend, it was just a trailer because plans are permanently lit on a heritage structure.
BMC has recently invited tenders for Rs.
3 Crore Worli Fort Restoration and Landscaping Project After receiving only a single bidder at the tender was floated in November last year.
Officials said that work on the project is expected to start within a month and the same thing should take about six months to complete.
The scope of the work, in addition to restoration of the castle, will include landscaping the surrounding area, the illumination to the fort and also a place in the vicinity, footpaths basalt, put up a statue of informative and directional signage boards.
Worli fort, located at the end of Worli Koliwada, built by the British around 1675, Hill Worli, when the city was made up of seven islands.
Assistant Commissioner of City of BMC G Ward South Sharad Ughade say that since 2020 they have been working on the restoration of the castle Worli and several meetings with the Minister of the Cabinet of the State and Local Mla Aaditya Thackeray has also been held regarding the same to ensure that all the permission to start the work already exists , Ughade also said that there is full cooperation of the State Archeology Department.
“We have received NOC from the Department of Archeology of the State and would like to start work as soon as possible.
We decided to re-invite tenders when we only received one bidder.
For the first time we turned the fort during Diwali last year and now we see additional changes that may be required as part of the project, “said Ughade.
The fort was used as a lookout enemy ships and pirates, and it’s well-built, a temple, and offering views of Mahim and Bandra.
Rampart is a platform for a cannon, a reminder of the significance of the military in the past.
This fort is among the three overlooking the Mahim bay on the west coast of Mumbai, with Fort Mahim and Bandra fort to the north.
