Thiruvananthapuram: Tamil poet and lyricist Vairamuthu was chosen for this season’s ONV Award instituted from the ONV Cultural Academy in honor of poet ONV Kurup. This is actually the very first time the awardwinning, being granted to litterateurs out of Malayalam and other Indian languages, is now moving to some non-Keralite author. Malayalam University vice-chancellor Anil Vallathol, author Alamcode Leelakrishnan and poet Prabha Varma have been members of their award jury. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh, citation and plaque. “Vairamuthu stands apart with his mellifluous speech, first graphics and philosophical advice,” said jury member Prabha Varma. Vairamuthu had confronted a string of complaints of sexual misconduct and harassment by girls, such as webcam singer Chinmayi Sripaada. She’d called on him posted a ribbon of tweets showing examples of harassment she’d confronted out of him. Vairamuthu had thrown aside the allegations and stated that it’d become a standard to malign honored men and that fact will triumph. Chinmayi’d rebutted his announcement on social networking. Vairamuthu’s first poetry collection was first released in 1972, when he was a pupil of Pachayappa’s College at Chennai. In his literary travel crossing 49 decades, he’s won many national and worldwide awards for his contribution to literature. His book’Kallikaattu Idhigaasam’ won the Sahitya Akademy award. ‘Thanneer Desam’ won the Aadhithanar literary decoration. Poet Vairamuthu has received seven national picture awards because of their tunes. He’s also been compared with India’s prestigious Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards. “I’m honoured to get the esteemed ONV Kurup award. This award, from Kerala, the property that I tremendously admire because of its amazing literature, provides me immense joy. I view that as a crown put on Tamil with its sister tongue,” explained Vairamuthu in a declaration.
