THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ONV award to this season has been conferred on Tamil poet and lyricist Vairamuthu on Wednesday. ONV award instituted by ONV cultural academy in memory of late poet ONV Kurup has been granted to litterateurs out of Malayalam and other Indian languages. This is really for the very first time a non-Keralite author was picked for ONV awardwinning.
The award was decided by the jury containing Anil Vallathol, vice-chancellor, Malayalam University, Alamcode Leelakrishnan along with Prabha Varma. The award includes money prize worth Rs 3 lakh, citation and plaque.
“Vairamuthu stands apart with his mellifluous speech, first graphics and philosophical advice,” said jury member Prabha Varma.

Poet Vairamuthu’s first poetry collection was first released in 1972, when he was a pupil in Chennai’s Pachayappa’s faculty. In his literary travel crossing 49 decades, he’s won many national and worldwide awards for his contribution to literature. His book’Kallikaattu Idhigaasam’ won the Sahitya Akademy award. ‘Thanneer Desam’ won the Aadhithanar literary decoration. Poet vairamuthu has obtained seven national awards for their own tunes. He’s been conferred India’s prestigious Padmasri and Padmabhushan awards.
“I’m honoured to get the esteemed ONV Kurup award. This award, from Kerala, the property that I tremendously admire because of its amazing literature, provides me immense joy. I view this as a crown put on Tamil with its sister speech. ONV Kurup is a literary leader. He moved on to demonstrate how to reduce or eliminate the space between lyrics and poetry. His functions Ujjaynee along with Swayam Varam are all amazing epics. He’s not only a poet. He’s become the voice for a lot of people’s battles. He’s created great bits of Malayalam literature online with science fiction. The water and wind of Kerala are well versed in literature. Keeping that in mind, I think that this award against Kerala because of crowning glory,” explained Vairamuthu in a declaration.
