Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader V D Sathean has written to the Chief Minister Tamil Nadu M K Stalin, who asked for cooperation and guidance for the construction of a new dam in Mullasiyar.
In his letter, Sathean said that a permanent solution is needed which is legally and technically, and binding, given the current reservoir security.
“I ask you to support Kerala in building a safe and strong new reservoir in Mullasiyar.
We believe safely for Kerala and Water for Tamil Nadu.
Based on this motto, states must work together.
I ask you to provide all support and Guide to us for the construction of new dams that will benefit the two countries, “he said.
Unprecedented rain this month filled the dam full, and the reservoir safety was a big problem for the state community, he said.
Being a country, Kerala and Tamil Nadu must jointly find a permanent and scientific solution, he added.
Last week, Head of Pinarayi Vijayan’s minister had written to the Head of the Minister of Tamil Nadu, who asked him to release more water from the Mullaseriyar Dam to Tamil Nadu, anticipating a worrying increase in water surface due to heavy rain in the water catchment area.
In his letter, Vijayan asked the Minister of Tamil Nadu’s minister to immediately direct the authority of the concern to ensure that the maximum amount of water was taken from a multaperiary dam through the tunnel to the Vaigai Dam and gradually releasing water.
Vijayan on Monday stated in the Assembly that the state government was firm in the need for a new dam in Mullasiyar, and the problem with Tamil Nadu would be resolved through discussion.
