Thiruvananthapuram: Oppo Leader V D Sathean has urged the government to form an expert committee with fishermen as well as its members to overcome and resolve the dangers caused by Muthalappozhi Breakwater in Perumhur.
Sathean made this attraction after visiting breakwater breakers after rising the number of fishermen deaths at breakwater breakers.
He was accompanied by Adoor Prakash, MP, local Congress leaders and priests and local parish officials.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Sathean said it was a suspicion of unscientific ways of construction that had changed the breakwater breaker area into a death trap for fishermen.
“By implementing a permanent dredging system, the danger level can be reduced.
The government must immediately take steps in this matter.
Since its construction, around 55 fishermen die and more than 500 have been injured.
The fishermen also suffered property losses in the form of boats, nets, and Other fishing equipment damaged by deadly waves.
The government must take the right steps to compensate for these fishermen and their families, “Satheani said.
