MUMBAI: Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday met governor B S Koshyari to protest the state government’s decision to hold a two-day monsoon session in July.
He was accompanied by Opposition leader in the legislative council Praveen Darekar, BJP state unit president Chandrakant Patil senior BJP leaders Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, Girish Mahajan, Mangalprabhat Lodha and others.
“The government is avoiding holding the legislative session using the excuse of the pandemic while local self government elections are being conducted and we raised this concern with the governor.
The government does not want a discussion on its corruption, its inability to extend help to farmers and other needy people in the state.
We requested the governor to ensure a regular session is held and the long delayed election to the post of the legislative speaker be held.
This is a breakdown of constitutional machinery and we have asked the governor to submit a report on this to the President,” he said.
On the by-poll elections announced by the state election commission to a few local self-government bodies, Fadnavis said his party would put up a candidate from the Other Backward Community whose reservation was recently cancelled by the Supreme Court.
