The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the Department of Space, and the Indian government has signed MoUs with OPPO smartphone makers to strengthen research and development of the domestic satellite navigation system for Navic messaging services.
This MoU aims to pave the way for future collaboration between ISRO and Oppo India to develop customary solutions by entering the Navic short message feature at the door of the smartphone in the country.
It will enable ISRO and OPPO to exchange Navic messaging service technical information to build a special application that is ready to use, end to the end by integrating Navic messaging services with a cellular handset platform that considers user needs in India.
Brand Xiaomi Smartphone announced a bond similar to Isro in 2020.
Some Xiaomi smartphones come with Navic support.
Dr K Sivan, Secretary, DOS / Chairperson, ISRO appreciates the efforts of OPPO, India in improving the Navic application through their innovative R & D initiatives.
He also urged Oppo, India to enter Navic on all their upcoming products.
What is Navicnavis or navigation with the constellation of India is a regional geo positioning system designed in India by the ISRO space agency to provide an accurate position in India and around the Indian mainland.
This is considered equivalent to US-based GPS, Glonass Russia and Galileo developed by Europe.
ISRO considers Navic to be more accurate than GPS with 5 meter position accuracy.
Also, Navic is powered by double frequency (s and l band) while GPS only depends on L bands so it is more accurate than GPS.
The Navic system provides regional navigation services that include mainland India and an area of up to 1500 km outside of mainland India.
In addition to its main function providing PNT services, Navic is also able to broadcast short messages.
This messaging service is mainly used to broadcast live safety warnings in areas with poor communication or not, especially in the ocean.
