Thiruvananthapuram: The opposition has demanded the arrangement of the Covid-19 Help Commission on the lines of the agricultural debt assistance commission to ease the burden on the disease in the poor.
Fixing the subject of the suicide of twins in Kottayam after they received bank notifications for failing on loans, the opposition accused the government to ignore the fate of the community during the pandemic, repaying leave for the Mla Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan movement, Cooperation Minister VN Vasavan said the notice was presented to two brothers -Neward Khan and Naseer Khan-based provisions of Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Law, 2002, seven months ago.
There was no further action taken on it except that the Manuuzha Bank Branch Manager of the Urban Kottayam Cooperative Bank visited their residence and spoke to the two brothers, he said.
The brothers have committed suicide last Monday, allegedly pursuing bank officials threatening them to the consequences of non-loan payments.
The minister said the police had registered cases, and investigations were underway.
The further steps needed will be taken based on the probe, he said.
Opposition Leader V D Satheesan said the government did not need to be responsible for suicide that occurred in a state of normal conditions, but in this case, it was the inability of the government during the pandemic period which caused suicide of brothers.
He said the government had not yet shown the willingness to hold discussions about thousands of incidents where recovery notice was presented to the public even at the time of Covid-19.
Sathean said several financial institutions had sent GOONS disguised as executives for recovery loans that threaten families of absent.
Sathmesan said “directly with Covid” is the motto now around the world, and stopping all other businesses to keep a pandemic in the bay is not the right strategy.
Opposition has targeted the government for some time on a sustainable sidewalk pandemic.
He also crashed into the government for his failure to provide more SOPs and assistance to the public and demanded that the government immediately establish a Pandemi Assistance Commission, similar to the agricultural debt assistance commission founded by the LDF government in 1996 after the state witnessed the increase in farmers’ suicide.
The opposition then carried out a walk-out of the Assembly after speaker M Bajesh denied permission for the postponement movement based on the answers from the minister.
