New Delhi: Crossing the Sword with the center stated in parliament that it has no knowledge of the death of farmers during their sustainable protest against three agri-marketing laws, several opposition parties have demanded a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe to ensure facts.
Shiromani Akali Dal (Sad), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena and several other opposition parties, including left, have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for JPC investigations to ensure the death of farmers during the “Kisan) and” against three laws Agriculture.
The letter – written by sad leaders, Shiv Sena, NCP, BSP, JKNC, RLP, CPI and CPI (M) – came as a reaction to Agriculture statements Narendra Singh Tomar that the center had no knowledge of the death of farmers.
Opposition leaders said the minister’s statement had injured the sentiment of the agricultural community throughout the country and he had to apologize because he had insulted the farmers.
They said Tomar stated in parliament that the center had no record of farmers who died during Kisan Andolan who were ongoing on the Delhi border.
Among the signatories of the letter were Harsymrat Kaur Badal (SAD), Supriya Sule (NCP), Arvind Sawant (Shiv Sena), Denmark Ali (BSP), Hanuman Beniwal (RLP), PR Natarajan (CPI-M), M Selvaraj ( CPI) and Hasnain Masoodi.

JPC can also take feedback directly from farmers and their representatives about their reservation vis-a-vis The Three Agriculture Laws and hand over the same to the government for the necessary actions, they say in their letters.
The leaders hope that the insults who are gown by farmers and their democratic protests are handled through the intervention of the speaker, which will send a clear signal that the democratic temple stands with “Annadaata” and will not take insults on it.
Farmers have protested three central agricultural laws and demanded their scrapping since November last year.
Sad leaders and other parties will meet the president in this matter on Saturday morning.
