Trichy: AIDMK coordinator and former head minister O Panneerselvam have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is looking for intervention on the release of 23 fishermen who were detained by Navy Sri Lanka on October 13 from Tamil Nadu.
In the letter, Panneerselvam said that the fishermen had traveled to the sea from Nagapattinam on October 11, two mechanical boats.
Their boat was also confiscated by the nation’s navy navy.
They were taken to the Karainagar Navy base where they were imprisoned.
Sri Lankan naval action was very surprising, he said in a statement.
He has reaffirmed that the incidence of arrest and detention of Tamil Nadu fishermen is a concern.
The fishermen had gone to the sea to fish with a constant fear of being attacked by Sri Lanka, created a lot of tensions and riots among fishermen in the state, he said.
He asked for PM intervention in this matter and looked for his intervention for the release of all 23 fishermen and their trawl.
