GHAZIABAD/NOIDA: Over 90% of the jail population in both Dasna jail in Ghaziabad and Luksar jail in Noida is now vaccinated.
According to the Dasna jail officials, Ghaziabad made a record of vaccinating 2,400 jail inmates in a single day on Wednesday.
Noida has also vaccinated 1,850 inmates in the age group of 18-44 years and the drive will end with vaccinating all inmates by Friday.
Dasna jail superintendent Alok Singh said, “It is the highest number of jail inmates to be vaccinated in Uttar Pradesh in a single day.
Not only this, all 577 inmates above 45 years are fully vaccinated.
As the jail population changes daily, there will be some people in this age group who have been lodged recently and are yet to be vaccinated.” Singh added that the present population of inmates in the jail is about 4,800, and of this, 4,200 are below 45 years.
As many as 3440 of them have been given the first dose so far.
In Noida’s Luksar jail, there are 393 inmates over 45 years who have received both doses of the vaccine.
The jail has 2,600 inmates currently.
Bhim Sen Mukund, superintendent of Luksar jail, said, “The over 45 age group is fully vaccinated with both doses.
In the 18-45 category, 1,850 people have been given their first dose while nearly 350 people remain.
We do about 300 vaccinations daily and hope that everyone will get the jabs by Friday.” He added that there are 612 inmates who are out on parole.
These inmates will be kept separately and will not mingle with the vaccinated lot unless they are given the shots.
