Late SP Jhananathan was a filmmaker who saw a film as a means of spreading his ideology.
Naturally, there are more than just phacnessiness in the films.
Laabam is no exception.
This film is a protest against capitalism, about how greed to make profits cause decisions that seem to be good in the short term, but actually is a long-term disaster for people and planets.
The protagonist is Pakiri (Vijay Setupathi), the Association of President Peruvayal, who wants to regain Panchami land that has been seized by landlords, returns it to ordinary people and uses it for community agricultural initiatives that will benefit all village farmers.
But the great shot of that place, Vanangamudi (Jagapathi Babu, Typecast for the hundreds of times as a greedy capitalist) has another plan.
He wants to start a bio-diesel project that will pick him up billions.
And with the police and politicians in his pocket, Vanangamudi will do anything to ensure that the plan is successful.
Laabam is what can be called a film with good intentions, but also honorable intentions to make us care about the film? It depends on how many lectures you can go through.
This is a type of film where the protagonist is marked as someone who seems to know everything and literally called Allah by His people.
Here, Vijay Setupathi – whose appearance continues to change from one scene to the next scene – explain the concept of profit through bread (a la vijay, who gave communism for the doll line with IDLI), detailing the ways obtained to be converted into so many products and ruaga How cane farmers still remain poor, telling history and politics behind land ownership, and so on.
Yes, this is an informative moment, but when it comes to storytelling, they can only be described as dump information.
The film narrative is quite cracked.
Instead of moving from one event to another, here, it moves from one problem to another at a fast speed that gives us the wrong momentum.
Characters are also painted in broad strokes.
Pakiri is said to be a person like the worldly knowledge that has traveled far and wide, and so, we were asked to consider whatever he said.
He has a group of friends, but none of them are written.
People like Kalaiyarasan and Sai Dhanshika were wasted in a significant role.
As for Vanangamudi, he did all the cliche things carried out by rich criminals in the film – having a palatial bungalow, had a woman who served him in Beck and his call, had a corrupt police on his side permanently …
Well, you know the rest! Then, we also have mandatory tin women.
This is Clara (Shruti Haasan), a player.
The fewer says the significance of Clara on the plot is getting better.
We even got a romantic track without allling between him and Pakiri, which fortunately left as soon as brought into the plot.
Given that Jhananthan is no longer, it is difficult to decide how many messy stories are caused by his death.
The director has shot the film, but has died during editing, with his assistant to finish post-production.
But tragically that Laabam will remain the final film of this filmmaker.
