WASHINGTON: The US Air Force said the cargo plane was packed with Afghan refugees whose photos were widely distributed online actually brought more people than the originally thought – and marked a new passenger record for airplanes.
A brief statement with the order of air mobility on Friday said the C-17 who left the capital, Kabul, last week had an initial calculation of 640 passengers, but that number accidentally left 183 children sitting in the round of people.
The statement said the correct number of 823 passengers was a record for C-17.
It took when the Taliban swept into the city, pushing thousands of Afghans and foreigners to rush to the airport looking for flights – with some reaching the runway.
