Bicholim: With a withdrawal of a monsoon, the rice harvest has begun to swing full in Bicholim Taluka since this week.
Farmers have been given a subsidy of 50% to use harvester machines, farm officials.
The cost of harvesting machines is Rs 2,400 per hour.
If the weather survives for the next few days and if the crop machine is made available on time, the harvest is likely to be completed in the next two weeks.
Bicholim Zonal Paskaj Pokle Agriculture Officer checks harvested work in Vargao on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Officials estimate that the rice yield will be good as long as it doesn’t rain.
Farmers from regions such as Pilgao, Mayem, Vargao, Narvem, Mulgao, Bordem and surrounding areas have done traditional harvesting methods in areas where the land is swamped because the harvesting machine cannot be used here.
Farmers accuse that workers involved in traditional harvest work collect their exorbitant levels for their services and that they have no choice but to pay them.
