Paediatric ICUs not Prepared in CHCs, PHCs: Physicians

Written by news2in

Noida/Ghaziabad: Preparing for its next wave of Covid-19 because of paediatric tide, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath had declared last month that districts will arrange sufficient paediatric ICU (PICU) beds in all CHCs and PHCs.
But while officials assert that agreements are being created, physicians say it is impractical to organize for ICUs at each middle and not one are prepared in Noida or even Ghaziabad.
There are approximately 150 paediatricians at all Gautam Budh Nagar and approximately seven paediatric intensivists who manage PICU.
Of these, less than 10 percent paediatricians are from the government sector, although others are private professionals.
There’s only 1 paediatrician beneath the CMO and 2 in the district hospital, even which makes it a total of three authorities child pros.
“We’ve purchased PICU gear for many CHCs and can have them put up soon.
We’re not certain if PICU wards could be installed in PHCs.
There’s 1 paediatrician beneath the CMO office.
To conduct PICU in the CHCs we want 15 such physicians,” explained Dr Deepak Ohri, chief health officer, GB Nagar.
At Ghaziabad, PICU center will soon be accessible exclusively at hospitals, but CHCs are on standby to manage any crisis.
Sources said there isn’t any manpower to begin PICU in smaller centers in the area.
Doctors state that tackling a PICU ward needs at least four paediatricians plus a comparable number of physicians and paramedics.
“Human Resource is a enormous challenge if PICUs need to develop in all PHCs and CHCs.
Most centers are short-staffed and you will find fewer child experts.
It’s not feasible to recruit physicians at this notice,” said a senior physician in the department at GB Nagar.
