Islamabad: Pakistan will host senior diplomats from the United States, China and Russia in Islamabad to discuss situations in Afghanistan on Thursday.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and his national security advisor, Moeed Yusuf will lead the ‘Troika Plus’ meeting.
Representatives from four countries will also meet with Afghanistan Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi, Dawn reported.
Muttaqi will arrive at Islamabad on Wednesday.
This is the first visit to Pakistan by a Minister of Afghanistan since the Taliban confiscated Kabul’s control in August.
“Troika Plus in SRS (Special Representative Level) will meet Muttaqi,” Pakistani officials said.
Dialogue is taking place when the Taliban seeks international recognition.
However, the international community is in no hurry to give legitimacy to the government while the Taliban unless they fulfill their promises.
“Troika Plus has become an important forum for involvement with Afghan authorities.
This will declare support for the inclusive government, discussing ways to prevent the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the protection of human rights, especially women’s rights,” he said.
This is the first full meeting of Troika Plus after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
The last format was held in August in Doha, where the US was represented by a former special envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad.
Another meeting was organized by Russia in Moscow on October 19, but the US did not participate by quoting “logistics”.
