Islamabad: Pakistan on Saturday rejected reports on agreements with the United States about the use of airspace for intelligence operations in the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.
Foreign office (FO) issued a statement in response to media requests regarding news reports that alluded to the formalization of the agreement between the two countries to carry out military and intelligence operations against Afghanistan.
Fo statement read: “There is no such understanding.” However, it added: “Pakistan and the US have long cooperation in regional security and counter-terrorism and both parties remain involved in regular consultations.” CNN News reported quoting three sources familiar with the details of secret direction with members of the US Congress which took place on Friday that the US approached the agreement with Pakistan to use its territory to carry out operations in Afghanistan.
Pakistani opposition parties also demanded the government to provide an explanation of reports that Pakistan has enabled the US military to use airspace.
Previously, Prime Minister Imran Khan in a categorical interview said that Pakistan would “not at all” allow the base and use of its region for all types of actions in Afghanistan.
