Pakistan reopens Chaman’s border crossing into Afghanistan

Quetta, Pakistan: One of the main crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan has been reopened after being closed for almost a month, officials said on Tuesday, offering hope to end the deadlock that has caused a big loss to traders and leaving thousands of people stranded.
Crossing Chaman is the main transit point for truck drivers who moved fruit exports from around the city of Kandahar in Afghanistan and closure for the past 27 days has come at a high cost for farmers who cannot get their products to the market.
“Afghan transit trade and other trade and economic activities continue,” said a senior Pakistani border official.
Re-opening must come in a relief for the Taliban government in Kabul, which desperately needs customs income from the border post.
Economy has a lack of money having a little source of other foreign income.
When Afghanistan has been immersed in the economic crisis, with the withdrawal of foreign fate suddenly following the Taliban victory in August, Pakistani officials are increasingly worried about the prospects of new refugees.
Pakistani authorities initially closed the border due to security threats, but disputes about the problem starting from Covid-19 to the validity of Afghan travel documents prevented reopen for weeks, even though there was a promise of action.
