Peshawar / Quetta: Two police were killed and six injured, including a young girl, in an attack in northern Pakistan near the Afghan border on Saturday as local Taliban militants approved a ceasefire a month after talks with the government, police said.
Police were killed by improvised explosive devices near the border in Khyber Province Pakhtunkhwa, where they posted in the reservoir.
“The two police officers were killed in an IED explosion which lasted at 10 am (0500 GMT),” Abdul Samad Khan, Senior Officer of the Bajaur district told Reuters.
Another attack took place on the outskirts of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan Province, where a police officer and five included a young girl and three women were injured.
Explosives are planted on motorbikes targeting police patrols in the area, said Ali Raza, a senior police officer.
A local Taliban spokesman denied responsibility for the attack, saying militant groups would obey the ceasefire.
Pakistan Taliban, or Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), is a separate movement of the Afghanistan Taliban, who took the control of the country in August.
TTP has struggled for years to overthrow the government in Islamabad and rule South Asian countries 220 million with their own brand of Islamic Islamic law.
There was a lot of failed efforts to achieve a peace agreement in the past.
The latest talk opened after the Afghan Taliban victory.
Both parties have met at the border in Afghanistan, with the help of the Taliban Afghan leaders.
