New Delhi: China has postponed an important meeting with Pakistan in CPEC (China Pakistani economic corridor) after the bus explosion killed 9 Chinese citizens.
Meanwhile, in the midst of Pakistani flip-flops on what was actually behind the explosion, the Chinese team would arrive in Pakistan to assist in the investigation, Chinese media reported quoting foreign ministry officials.
The explosion on Wednesday in Khyber Province Pakhtunkhawa occurred on the bus that brought workers to the hydropower project under construction.
13 people were killed in the explosion, including 9 Chinese workers.
Confusion ruled after a contrary version of the events that came from various quarters in the Pakistani government.
Federal Minister Fawad Ahmed Chaudhry clearly pointed to terrorism, and confirmed that the traces of explosives had been found on the bus.
But only hours later, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry issued a statement, called it an accident caused by a mechanical failure, resulting in a gas leak that triggered an explosion.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang spoke with Pakistan PM Imran Khan, and urged him to be responsible for the culprit in what he described as a “terrorist attack,” the media said on Friday.
A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the workgroup cross-department will visit Pakistan to help in the probe, the Global Times reported.
Probe is being permitted even though the Government Imran Khan has repeatedly stated that it will not allow foreign security on its land.
On Thursday, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan visited the injured in the hospital.
He urged that the truth of the incident was found, and he called for severe penalties for anyone responsible.
The CPEC meeting which was postponed now tended to be held after Eid al-Fitr, said the Project General of General Genonym Bajwa.
