Mumbai / New Delhi: In fresh flare-up tensions between India and Pakistan, a fisherman from Maharashtra on trawls near international waters Kutch was shot dead and others were injured in shooting by the Pakistani Maritime Security Agency on Saturday.
India submits a strong protest against the shooting, which is described as “without burden”.
Sridhar Chamre, 32, belongs to Palghar Regency.
His injured partner was being treated at a hospital in Okha, Gujarat.
Fishermen along the coast in Palghar, including Vadrai Village from where Chamre praised, called Bandh on Monday.
Pakistani Coast Guard forces are accused of being increasingly triggers – happy to Indian fishermen.
This is the second incident involving death since September 2015 when a 40-year-old worker on a fishing boat was shot dead by PMSA for allegedly across Indian waters.
In September 2020, PMSA personnel were fired on five Indian fishermen near the maritime boundary from Jakhau Beach in Kutch.
Someone hurt.
In February this year, Pakistan arrested 17 Indian fishermen and confiscated their boats for allegedly deviating to their territorial waters.
Pakistan holds more than 600 Indian fishermen in detention and more than 1,100 ships.
Officials and fishermen bodies often complain that even when Pakistan released fishermen, they guarded their boats.
The latest incident, officials said, still under investigation.
MEA adds India will take it diplomatically with Pakistan.
Manish Lodhari, President of Marine Fisheries Co-Op Ltd., Porbandar, said the shooting occurred near the International Maritime Limit Line (IMBL) in Jakhau at Kutch.
The boat with seven crew members sailed on October 26 from Okha Port.
On Saturday around 4pm, PMSA personnel were fired in traces.
Unconfirmed reports said Chamre was hit by three bullets and died on the spot.
A piercing bullet on the cheeks of other workers was bought by a signal, which drove the ship.
Father Ramesh the victim said the family was told about the incident by the owner of Jalpari, Jayantilal Rathod.
“My child went to work on a ship in mid-September.
We were told that he was in the waters of India and was hit on the chest.” Five other crew members escaped not hurt.
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in a statement said the case was being investigated by the police and the crew was being interviewed together.
“The details can be shared only after the completion of the investigation,” he said.
At least four to five fishing boats are believed to be around him when shots take place.
The body was brought to Port Okha and a case had been registered with Porbandar Navi Bandar police, said Devbhumi Dwarka Sunil Joshi police supervisor.
Chamre survived by his parents, wife and two daughters, aged 8 and 6.
Ramesh’s father worked as a laborer on a fishing boat in their village.
His mother Anysiya said, “I lost my older son, he was a person who took care of us.”
