PALGHAR: A 32-year-old man, his mother and daughter died after a water tanker hit their scooter in Palghar Maharashtra district, police said on Wednesday.
The accident took place on Tuesday night near Chandip in Virar Town.
After hitting the two wheels, the driver of the tanker escaped leaving the vehicle, an official from the Virar police station said.
Yogesh Madhavi (32), who drove a scooter, and his mother Sunita (60) died in place, while his nine-year-old daughter Vedas died during hospital treatment, he said.
The police then confiscated tankers.
They checked CCTV footage from the area and efforts to track the driver of the tanker, the official said.
The case is registered against the driver of the tanker under the relevant provisions of the Indian criminal code and the ACT of motorized vehicles, he added.
